    Worried about possible PCOS.
So I went to the doctor last week for a normal check up, and she noticed that my uterus was enlarged.

I had a pelvic ultrasound on Wednesday to check that out, and my uterus seems fine. However, I have several cysts on each of my ovaries.

I see a specialist next week, but my regular doctor mentioned that she thought this was possibly PCOS. I looked up PCOS on the internet, and now I'm freaking out a little.

I know I need to talk to my doctor about this, and as I said, I will be going to a specialist next week. That's just a long time to wait when you're kind of scared about the whole thing.

Can anyone give me any ideas on what to expect? We still want to conceive, and I realize that this is probably why we haven't in the past, but what are the odds of treatment working? Is it at all likely that I will lose my ovaries over this?

I'm somewhat bewildered right now, so any insight at all would be helpful.

There's a member who has been through this and I have asked her to read and respond.

    Hang in there.

Try to relax. :) PCOS can be a pain in the neck to deal with but there's a good chance you can conceive if you see the right doctor such as an endocrinologist or fertility specialist. I was able to conceive my daughter by taking Clomid. After I had her I found that following a low-carb diet really helped to keep the symptoms in check. In fact once I started following that diet my periods became regular for the first time in my life and I actually conceived without having to take Clomid.

Check out SoulCysters.com: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) Treatment & Resources for tons of info.

    Thank you very much!

I've actually HAD regular periods, which is why my doctor is sending me to a fertility specialist for the next step. I've noticed SOME of the other symptoms (more hair--eewwww!) and some weight gain, but honestly--I was stunned when she said there was something wrong, since I hadn't noticed anything TOO concerning in my general health--and much of what I did notice were classic symptoms of stress, which I have had a lot of lately!

I'll be looking at your links from home tonight, and want to thank you again for easing some of the fears.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome can even affect thin women, it's somewhat common. I noticed there was a good website mentioned, and I'm going to mention a few more that I find very helpful: www.pcos.insulitelabs.com, and www.pcosupport.com.

A specialist will most likely suggest the birth control and metformin, the websites mentioned might give you some other ideas in addition to the low carb diet (mentioned in another post) and regular exercise.

    Good luck.

Synn, dear sister, I wish I could help you on this one, but I know very little about PCOS. Lisa, above, is far more informed about this than I am. She is a great resource.
