    Shaky hands
I get too nervous when I am urged to talk in front of the class and I can feel my body shaking. I can really see that my hands are shaking especially when I am holding a paper... I get embarrassed and it is ruining my self-esteem.. It seems like a phobia to me already.. Please help me... :o

    Hi, francesco_jlo!

What grade or level in school are you in at the present time, please?

It would help to know that.

    Thanks!

When I had this fear, my father(the executive) had me read my reports to him, mother, and sometimes siblings.

By reading it before I had to do it in school,I not only was able to overcome the nervousness of the report, but was able to make changes necessary to make a better report.

It still was difficult,in the beginning, but as more reports and presentations are done, the feelings disappear.

Public speaking can be VERY rewarding,a huge confidence builder.

    Practice,practice,practice.

Is there any way that you can do your presentations on 3x5 note cards? Sometimes they are easier to handle and don't seem to shake as much.

Like KBC said, practice. A lot of people say, "Practice makes perfect." but I like to say, "Practice makes Permanent." Once you practice and practice and practice, the confidence that you build will become permanent.

You may not jump at every chance to speak in public, but your confidence will be permanent.

    Best of luck!

Yes, I agree! Practice, practice, practice...

For many years, I used to be a basket case when it came to speaking in front of people. I had anxiety attacks to the max. Now, I'm able to lead large groups of people as well as give spoken presentations without using any notes!

    Thanks, frncesco_jlo!

Hopefully, we might be on at the same time here in order to discuss live the difficulties that you have dealing with this problem. I've been there, done that so many times with dealing with this problem myself.

I'm glad that it's just because you're nervous and not because of something else that might need treatment beyond just positive and proactive ways to deal with it in the psychological and emotional sense.

By the way, when I was in college, I was still a nervous wreck when speaking in front of people...

Others will hopefully come on at the same time that you are on here who might also be able to lend a helping hand.

    Thanks!

Hello clough.. It's a sad thing that I am always offline. I seldom get online. I have no personal internet connection in my house. It's quite expensive here in our country. By the way, I am a Filipino student. It would be great that we would talk a lot about this problem of mine. The good thing is I am currently working for it-- to overcome my fears and worries. I hope I can achieve that confidence. Thanks for the time that you had spent.
