Hi, I may need to replace some circuit breakers but I am dealing with what appears to be 2 sets of tandem breakers. Out of the 4 pulls, the two outer ones have a metal rod connecting the pulls and are both labeled 30amp for my electric dryer ( 30 amp 220V). The two inner pulls are connected as well and are labeled 20 amp for my living room a/c. When looking at Home Depot I find plenty of tandem breakers but nothing that looks like what I have. Any suggestions here? Chris

What you have is a double 2-pole breaker. Usually they are used when a box doesn't have enough extra room to add another circuit. I usually go right to the electrical supply house when I deal with those things. What brand panel do you have? Sometimes those things are hard to find. Home Depot doesn't handle that many brands, and if you have a defunct brand of panel you will have to find a source of breakers that will fit it. You may have to go to several suppliers until you find one that handles the brand you need.

Makes sense, someone else said this would be called a Quad breaker too. It is a 8 month old Seimens panel so it is almost new. Why the elctrician reused the old quad I have no idea but that is what's there.

A good electrician in a panel with plenty of room can use 'quad breakers' and everything is just fine. If there is plenty of room in the panel, just replace it with 2 regular 2-pole Seimens breakers of the correct ratings.

He reused the old breakers because new ones cost money. If he gave an estimate when he replaced the panel he certainly wasn't going to do anything to up the cost after the fact. That's why you have to get the scope of work spelled out when getting estimates.

Standard quads, but Home Depot won't have them. If you have no more room in the panel for separation, do a quick online search and you will find many electrical suppliers to pick from to purchase. I will check a couple and may list it here when I have the time.
