I have an Amana heat pump.The heat is barely working and the outside unit has frost rings around it.Help it's cold!. Sorry will try to explain.. The outside unit is running and there is frost building up on the part of the unit that looks like a radiator... It's only 3 years old and have never had problems heating or cooling before... It started frosting up last week but no problems until this week when the Temp dropped below freezing.

Having frost build up on the outdoor unit is not good. Until you figure this out run your emergency/backup heat until the frost is melted.

Frost is certainly likely at that outdoor temp, but the unit should be going into defrost to prevent this. So maybe your defrost board/control module is bad. The other possibility is your system has sprung a leak and you are low on charge.
