I have sewage odor radiating from my toilet bowl. I have checked the back and around the entire seat and the odor is definitely coming out of the bowl. I have drained the water and refiled it, but the smell came back within 3 days. The other bathrooms in the house are fine. The water in the toilet is clear. Anybody know how to fix it?

You may have bacteria growing in your toilet. Try this. Pour 1/2 Gallon of bleach in the tank and the rest in the bowl. Scrub the bowl down with a brush and give the toilet a couple of flushes to clear out the bleach. Smell better now? Regards, Tom

So far so good with the bleach. Been smell free for 3 days. Have gotten 3 days of no smell before, so lets hope it stays.

Tom the smell came back! I have noticed the toilet is running ever so slightly. You have to pay attention to notice it. I played with the float rod and float and it needs to be raised about 1mm to make it stop. The float isn't holding any water or anything. Can this be what is letting the sewage smell into my bowl? There is also a few bubbles coming from the tank refill tube as it is running. I am 100% sure the smell is coming from the bowl and not the tank or floor.

Please help as the wife is getting a little upset that the house is getting funky.

OK! Let's do this. First check the flapper for wavy edges or eough spots and make surec the chain has a 1/4" of play when the flapper's seated. Now shut the water ooff to the tank and drain it. Now lift the flapper and pour a gallon of bleach down the flush valve so it comes out the rim holes and coats t5he inside of the bowl. Let it set for a few hours and fill the tan k and flush it away.
