Ok, I have a dumb question but what do you mean by flushing the valve? Do you mean turn the water back on once you have the cartridge out? And if so then would you not end up with water running down the inside of the wall? I have to replace the springs and seats as well and want to do it properly but I'm confused as to how to properly flush it out.

Not a dumb question at all. Working, repairing, or replacing a faucet disturbs minerals that are built up in the pipe walls. They can break loose and clog the supplies and/or the inlet ports of the cartridge. Yes, Turning the water back on while the valve's open will splash if you don't hold a pan over it but flushing out the crud will save a lot of cussing in the long run. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
