Connect 2 DirecTv units to same TV and VCR
Hi- I need to connect 2 DirecTv units to my one television and then to my VCR. One unit has more memory but the other has Tivo and thus a better movie searching capacity so I would like to use the units in tandem. I have a splitter for each of the 2 satellite cables so I can feed each unit with satellite service but I am unsure as to how to proceed to connect the second unit (with Tivo) into the set up TV/DVR/VCR combination I am already using. Any suggestions?

At some point you'll need to combine the signals to feed either the VCR or the TV. Radio Shack sells a line-level amplifier for about $30. They also sell what's called a diplexer, sort of a reverse splitter.

You could take the red, white, and yellow outputs from the satellite receivers, plug them into the input of the splitter, plug the splitter output into your VCR, then plug the VCR output into your TV.

Alternatively, you could split the RF outputs from the two receivers, then diplex (combine) them to plug into your TV and VCR. You'd then have to use the line-level output from your VCR to your TV.

Of the two, the first is less cluttered and will almost certainly give you better picture quality.
