I had a company come and replace the thermostat last year. I thought it wasn't heating because of the fan not working, and I relaced motor, fan, and capacitor. Well, it is not heating this winter and I think it is because of the way the thermostat was installed. It is a Smart Way Solutions Inc.VT2005 Talking Thermostst. I looked inside the thermostat and there are three wires cut off, white, black and blue. Could these be for the reversing valve or heat strips? The cold air works fine in summer, the past two winters, no heat.

Could be. Could also be extra wires that were not needed which is probably the case. Are there any terminals on your stat that aren't connected?

You will never get a decent answer based upon the info you provided... or didn't provide as the case would be.

Yes, B terminal has nothing. There is a jumper from Y to W1. The guide for the thermostat says not to connect the common wire because it will damage thermostat. I suppose the B is for black, but guess it could be brown also. I will go out tomorrow and see what the white , black and blue wires go to in the outside unit. There are also wires cut off in the plenum where the inside blower is. They are white, blue, brown, black, and green. I think I will be having a fun project this winter, thank God for portable electric fans. The thing is, I only had the thermostat replaced because it had mercury in it, and that's the only reason I paid someone to do it, so they would dispose of it. It worked fine with the mercury honeywell.

Since you have a talking thermostat, just ask it what you should do. Lol. I would double check to make sure your new themostat is compatible with your existing system.
