    Child abandonment/Sever rights?
I have a 5 year old daughter. Her father has never really been in the picture. He is in to drugs bad. The only time I have ever had any support was for about a year when he had a girlfriend that pretty much made him spend time with his daughter and I got 100 dollars a month. Since they broke up he hasn't spent anytime with her or offered to help. I have filed for child support and they can not find him to serve papers. We have never gone to court for any custody issues I have just had her her whole life. I would like to not ever have to deal with him again. What are the guidelines for child abandonment? Or is there a way to get his rights severed?

Depends greatly where you are at, in many states, merely not paying or not seeing the child is not grounds to take away a parents rights.

So unless your state allows this it is not going to happen.

Now did he go to prison, many states do allow a person to take away rights if the other partner has served a longer time in prison.
