I am a jewish 30 yr old female married to a muslim from Pakistan. He is my age, not very religios - pretty modern, does not practice, goes out, has a drink once in a while - in other words, he does not fit a typical stereotype of a "muslim" because he has lived in the US for such a long time. However, he wants his kids to follow strict religious Islam practices and spend some time living in Pakistan. I refuse to do so because I am an educated, independent female raised in the United States and a Jew. We cannot come to terms on how to raise our children. I have tried talking to him, but nothing works - he wants his children to be muslim. Please help me if any of you have experienced anything of this nature...

What was the agreement before you got married, as I assumed this would be the first thing you talked of? How many kids are there? And how have they been raised so far?? How long have you been married??

This should have been something long ago discussed and agreed to before the marriage.

Also what is his reason, esp if he is not a practicing, I would tell him that he should be one before the kids are forced to be some religion neither of you are. Next of course no the children don't need to live out of the country without you. That is silly, if he wants them to be a practicing muslim then he can teach them.

Buit if he is not practicing, and you are? ( are you ?) if not teach the children both and let them decide as they grow older

I am a jewish woma who married a persian muslim men who ALMOST NEVER practices religion. You are being fooled my dear. They are cultural muslims just like we are cultural jews. The identity is strong. I don't want to upset you buy your marriage will fail unless you are willing to become a subjugated pushover. You will be upset, bewildered, disappointed and finally walk away if he does not completely break your jewish sprit. Yes, we have children and he agreed for them to be raised Jewish but he went back on it. They lie it is acceptable in their religion. It is so much (unpleaseant) things you will learn. My heart breaks for you. I have extensive experience with both Muslim men and Indian men. Jewish woman will never succeed in this marriage. Their girls are raised not to talk back to be subservient, they have dominant mothers (that's why they like us Jewish girls). He will want to break you down eventually. Run, while you still can!

You guys so should have WORKED this out before you got MARRIED.

I am from pakistan who has lived in this country for a very long time, I am also not very religious either.
The proballity that he would really want his childern being strict muslims is pretty slim.If he doesn't pray five times a day how are your childern going to.
As for moving your childern to paksitan, I am from karachi and it is really not that bad of a place, it is actually pretty mordern .My ex girlfriend who was a christian, born and raised here went there a couple of times and enjoyed it.

Anywas I doubt he would want to go to pakistan anyway.The economic situation is declining and pakistan and it is nearlly impossible to find a decent paying job there.

You guys should have really talked about this before u 2 got married.

You guys are getting off the point, this lady is looking for some possible solutions to her problems. Not the bickering of two people who probably are not going to resolve this.

Warning, please keep answers to point, We all know that there is no "one" type in any race. All men or women have differnet beliefs or teachings. Racist comments trying to show all of one race as being a certain way has no place on this or any board.
