I have a live-in housekeeper and have 3 children who are 16,13 and 10. Her main responsibilities have to deal with housekeeping although she's available frequently if I need her to hang with 1,2 and/or 3 of the kids. What would you think is the appropriate salary for someone of this profession? Thanks

I've seen 300 a week in ads. Maybe ask the housekeeper what she expects, or what she is used to receiving.

It all depends on duties as well as her time there, example live-In or not.

Consider travel time to and from if not live-in also is cooking a requirement, and if so are they great or average meals and how much would it cost you out for same meals.

Just house cleaning duties OR laundry service like washing basket(s) worth of laundry plus ironing.

Pets and or childminding involved? I'm guessing not as you (I think would have mentioned it, right).

In all break down the duties/chores, etc ask agencies, job and gov payroll etc, most of all in all truthfulness what would you be asking for for those duties/skills as well as time, meaning make you happy, after all don't you want just 1 good housekeeper and not one 1 month another next months or so.

The answer should be simple, naturally the question is how do you personally value a housekeeper and how much can and or are you willing to pay.

BTW, I am no housekeeper but a damned hard worker who takes pride in their work but not for an unfair/unrealistic wage.

I am a housekeeper and child care provider, I think it depends on the duties you need to be done regularly in the house like cleaning bathrooms, cleaning kitchen, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting and laundry. Ironing or cleaning windows pays more, also caring for pets (feeding, walking, washing, etc) If children are teenagers or pre teens, they don't like to be around and don't require much care, just keeping an eye on them is enough. They pretty much do homework, listen to music, play games, etc. Unless you have to drive them around, which also pays more. If doing all the duties and as live in and available 24/7, its important to set time to start and end (or to be on call), the reasonable pay would be around $600. If you need the chores to be done and just want to pay for the hours as live out, I would say between $12-$17/ hour. As live out, it can be done sometimes one or twice a week. If you offer room and board the accommodations should be in living conditions (no bedbugs) giving privacy to your housekeeper and a TV in the room is very appreciated.

I want to become a "major domo" maintain the home - for an older couple who is financially well off. I am not a child care person. I am willing to help plan events for the owners' guest MAYBE help with the food prepareation /shopping -and care for 1 -2 pets but not children.
