Something popped up on my screen about downloading a random antivirus program?
So of course being paranoid about viruses and malware, something had to come up to confirm all of my fears.

Basically I went and checked my hotmail account. I didn't even open any emails or anything. All of a sudden my internet closes and a pop up box appears asking me if I want to install Antivirus 2009, saying some others things about protecting my computer, etc. I hit cancel on it, and it brought me to a site that started scanning something and there were "5 errors" found apparently already. I exited out of the window right away while it was still scanning.

The box that popped up had this website source at the top of it. >LINK Removed<.. I did go to the site, but did not download or enter anything.

I already had 2 antivirus programs in the background running and are almost done. Should I redo a scan? Do you think I have anything to worry about?
I have really been trying to be careful, I don't go to obscure websites or download a bunch of things or anything. I'm just paranoid I guess. But if you think that there could be a virus on my computer now, or malware, what should I do?

    Hi, xxariesxx!

If it were me and something was able to close your browser and looked like it was scanning at all, then I would be redoing a scan.

It could be nothing, but better to be safe than sorry!

DON'T run more than one active anti-virus program as this WILL cause problems.

As for Antivirus 2009 this is known malware and is discussed here: https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/comput...dy-281152.html

Thank you for your responses. I'm sorry, I didn't know that you shouldn't run two at the same time.

They completed scanning and said nothing was wrong. But since they were while all of that happened, should I scan with one of them again?

And thank you for the link.
You suggest I should run Malwarebytes.org?
I didn't download anything. I only hit cancel and it started scanning, but I exited out with 3 seconds before it had finished anything.

I had antivirus 2008. It popped like you say and I declined but it started showing up all over the computer. I later read that it enters no matter which option you select and the only way to stop it from entering is to hut down the computer without making any selection. I had to buy a spy hunter program which cleaned it up immediately but cost 30 bucks for 6 months.

I am also very concerned about what would happen if my computer is infected now? What will it even do to my computer to harm it?

The malwarebytes program referenced in the link is FREE and does an amazing job of completely removing Antivirus 2008/9 as well as a lot of other adware programs.

xxariesxx, judging by your other posts you need to observe the BASICS of staying safe online as you clearly don't have a clue.
The link you posted in the thread starter is a point in case. A lot of malware installs simply by visiting the malicious web site, so you link was EXTREMELY dumb to say the least.
