    Apologies if this is on the wrong board but here goes...

    Our network is some 6.5, 5 Netware and Windows 2003 boxes, everything is in eDirectory and Zfd management agent on all machines and we use Group Policies delivered by Zen.

    I use the C$ every now and then to move files etc.. But for some reason this has stopped working, so has the admin$.

    As far as I know nothing has been changed in the Group Policies and this problem is happening across all of our workstations that I try to connect to, it also happens when I try connecting to other machines from other machines (if you know what I mean)

    I have done a 'net share' command and all the usual shares are there and I have also done this on the machines that I am trying to connect to

    If I try to connect to '\\IPaddress\C$' I get the message -
    A device attached to the system is not functioning

    If I try to connect to '\\MachineName\C$' I get the message -
    Windows cannot find \\MachineName\C$. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the start button and then clicking search

    Any ideas on this would be very much appreciated, thanks.

    For the first error message you can try googling: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...ioning%22&meta=

    The second is the standard message you see when Windows cannot locate whatever it is you are looking for. Since the group policies haven't changed then your access to the hidden shares should not have changed; what about the directory of computers? Has anything changed there? Your info seems to point to a directory issue but I'm not familiar with eDirectory or Zfd management so there isn't much I can do to help there. Sorry.

    Yeah I have done various searches but with no luck, I don't think it can be a big problem as this used to work but now doesn't work across all workstations so it cannot be a workstation spesific thing?

    If that computer is booting up as a standalone, off the network, then you would get the second error message for sure.

    Nope, I authenticate into Edirectory and then logon to the workstation as admin and these error messages are still happening, the shares are also still there on both of the machines

    I found the issue was resolved SOMETIMES, by creating a dummy share of an empty folder (Or any folder), to ensure the sharing is starting properly. The default of printers and what-not sometimes isn't enough to get the sharing functional.

    This has worked when I had that exact problem, I could walk to the machine ping mine, I can ping it, but no shares... Even through Net Neighborhood (Was shown, but double clicking said not found)

    File and Print sharing has been disabled on the machines
