If you clicked o Microsoft "Anti-Virus 2009" it's already too late. You're infested with spam that refuses to be deleted and if you attempt to access the removal tool it won't download. I tried just about every way I could to delete it. It resisted everything I tried. Pop-ups eveery time I turned around.
The only way Microsoft would stop the pop-ups and spam would be if I paid big $ for their application. Since I didn't need this I figured a simple "NO" would be enough. File shredder, program delete, cancel, none would get this out of my system. It just hung on like a bad cold.
I finally gave up and restored my system back before Anti-Virus 2009.
If you see it do not download it! It is not a download! If you've downloaded it good luck on removing it . I tried for a hour before I just gave up and restored my system. Good luck, Tom

Antivirus 2009 is not a Microsoft product, it's counterfeit antivirus spyware and a variant of Antivirus 2008. I'm no fan of Microsoft, but they do not distribute malware.

What better way to dupe someone into downloading malware than to paste Microsoft all over it? :)

This is a new form of adware.
It gives a ton of false positives that cannot be "removed" until you pay them ;)
Not a problem Tom.
Just download and run this through your system, it will remove all traces of this adware.

Thanks Ben, Your download failed. I even went to their web site and tried to download it. I find out now that Windows Defender is simply a earlier 2008 version of the malware I'm attempting to remove. Now I have removed the 2009 version by restoring back to a earlier date but Windows Defender came with Vista. (Talk about bloat) I guess I'll try the web for a solution. Do you have any more ideas> thanks, tom

Windows Defender is a legit piece of software, although rather rubbish.

The Malwarebytes program Ben suggested is what you want. If you can't get it downloaded, see if someone else you know can download it to a USB keychain drive so you can install it from there.

Vingogly, normally I use Spybot, but I have found Malwarebytes does an excellent job with this particular piece of annoyingware ;)

Thanks Ben but I clicked om your limk and got a trial version of " Advanced Registry Optimizer". I disabled Windows Defender. Sure acts like Malware. You can't delete it. Thanks for your help. Tom
