Hello everyone, I joined the RCIA group in my church a month or so ago. And one of the sponsors gives me a ride home every Thursday night after it. She goes 20minutes out of her way to drive me. Also she is an elderly lady. She is so nice, today she even called me while I was at work to see if I wanted a ride to church this Sunday. I really want to show her how much I appreicate it. But I'm not to sure how to... what are some ideas you guys have? But I'm not sure :S... help please.

p.s. (im not used to meeting such loving and caring people)

There are so many things you could do. Since she is elderly a handwritten card telling her how much she is appreciated would probably fill her with joy. If you draw you could include a picture with the card. Flowers from your yard made into a nice arrangement and put in a vase would be good too. Then there is always good ol' baking cookies.

Also, have you offered to help her pay for gasoline?

I'm only 19 I still with my mom and I'm about to go to school. If that helps? I haven't offered to pay for gas, I know even if I do, she will say No.

I'd offer a couple of dollars anyway even if she doesn't take it. She will know you appreciate the ride.

Be careful with the cookies if you make any. She may avoid nuts or chocolate or who knows what. Is there a way to subtly slide baking into the conversation and ask her what she likes after you rattle on about your favorites?

Every week , we bring in treats during the program anyway :S

You evidently have found one of God's gems.

The best thing you can do now is make part of the goal of your life to be like her in her caring and helpful attitude and actions.

It would also be a compliment to her if you ask her how she got to be the way she is.

Yes, spending time with her is probably the best thing you could do. And listening to her advice is good too. I notice the more time you spend with someone, you can see where they are in need. If you feel obligated to her for driving you, but don't want her as a friend, then yes, you can give her something.

Obviously you have found a very nice friend.
My suggestion is to be one of hers.
Find out more about her without being nosey.
That way you can say and do things that are friendly, helpful, and pleasing.
Often something small like just one beautiful flower that is a favorite of yours will touch her nicely,
Giving here a few dollars for gas is a good idea. Don't offer it, give it to her. If she turns it down, then offer your heat felt thanks.
Sometime when the time is right you could aks her if there is anything you can do to be helpful to her.
Keep your mind working on nice things and idea will pop into your head.
