    On again/off again Goodman furnace
I have a 60000 BTU gas Goodman furnace. It is undersized by 50%. The furnace cycles on and off from 60 to 80 seconds. This happened last year. The control board was replaced and it worked properly. It is happening again. The furnace repair man verified that all sensors were operating properly. Should I have the board replaced again? Help.

Make sure the flame sensor is cleaned. Use sand paper to clean the metal rod. I would do this just for the heck of it since circuit boards are expensive. If that does not help then looks like you are stuck buying a board. Now most replacement parts have some sort of warranty and I would be checking with the company or person you got the board from last year to see if it is in the one year warranty period.

Under normal circumstances the citcuit board should not have to be replaced every year.

Just out of curiosity, why did you have an undersized unit installed?

If you will describe what is taking place with your heater we might be able to give an answer.

You say your furnace will run for 60 to 80 seconds. Does the flame burn for 80 seconds and turn off. Or does the motor run for 80 seconds and turn off. Or do both of them turn off at the same time.

Sounds to me like it could be a problem with the thermostat, has anyone ever checked what the heat anticipator is set on? It should be set around .6 amps and it would not hurt if it was a little highter.

Tell us more of what is happening and we will try some more.
