No heat will blow out of furnace. Was told by heating and air conditioning person that it was overloaded because we set the thermostat to high all at once. We should only go up in increments of six degrees because it would cause the system to work to hard to go any higher than that all at once. Forgot what they told us to do to fix this problem. Can anyone assist?

Sounds like the service person had a good line of BS

How about a brand and Model number. Is this a gas furnace or heat pump or?

Did you check to see if the pilot light was lit? Sometimes they blow out. When this happens, the furnace would be blowing out cold air. This has happened to me before. Like a doctors appointment, I would call another HVAC person (being politically correct) and see what they have to say. I would not tell this other person what you have been told. See if they tell you something else or the same thing.

Is this a gas or elcetric furnace.

Um just to throw out the obvious... could you maybe have a failed blower motor? Maybe the fan limit switch (depending on age).

If your 'furnace guy' told you that your furnace could only handle a 6 degree rise without tripping on high limit then it sounds like you have 2 things wrong 1) you have an air flow issue and 2) you have an inept 'furnace guy'.
