Tampa FL is known for a problem with "sulfer smell" in the water supply. I have just moved to my 5th location and encountered it for the first time. This house was built in the 60s and has the original pipes. I have read previous posts about Bacteria in the water and wonder if that may be the issue. Is replacing the pipes, or adding a filtration system an option?

The first thing I would do is to have the water tested. See exactly what is in your water.

We deal with the sulfer smell/taste here in Ohio. It is just the way it is. The water here has a lot of iron in it and I believe that is what causes the smell. (I think)
We do have a water softner that filters out all of that.

Thank you for your reply - I will find out what is in the water. So you know, the water is city water and no problem a half mile away.

Then I would definitely get a water test. Replacing your pipes can get really expensive - so I hope it is something that can be easily fixed.

Are you on a well or city water? If on a well they have aeration systems that will remove the sulfur smell from your water. Let me know, Tom

Back in the 60's I worked all over Tampa and never ran into sulfur water. This sounds like you have bacteria in your house pipes and all faucets. I now live in Town & Country and had thought that there was a problem with Tampa water, but you have helped me understand that is not the problem in Tampa. I guess that I have been living in bacteria free places until now. Since I have experienced the affect of bacteria - I am glad there is a way to correct the situation.
