    Top plate
I have a top plate in the endwall of the gable, non load bearing, and it is on edge with a plywood spacer, rather than laying flat. Is that OK? Room was a carport that was enclosed and the plate was added to put up a wall where none existed.

It probably isn't code but it should suffice as a non-load nailing surface for your siding.
