I have a 12YR old with multiple disabilities; her father is not in her life, he does nothing for her not even call or come to see her when she's in the hospital. My husband who has been their for the past seven years through surgeries and sickness would like to adopt her how do we go about that

You would probably have to obtain an attorney but I would start by calling your local court house to see if they have a court liaison. Most courts to and they are free. IF your county has one start by talking to him and see where to start from there. But more than likely you have to get an atty Unless your ex signs over all rights to your child. I would ask him if h want to give up his rights and see what he says.If he does and doesn't contest your husband adopting him it shouldn't be that hard.. You also can go to your local court house an use there law library for a source of information, and there is always someone there that knows theses laws..
