Installing fiber glass corner shower unit
    Hello
I have been reading your questions and answers regarding installation of fiberglass base shower units and have one more regarding the drain. I have removed the cement floor to install a 2" trap and have purchased a Aqua dynamic 2" shower drain, my question is once I have positioned my trap and refinished the floor, is there anything that I am missing during the step before installing the base on top of the drain and then installing the screen and rubber gasket?

    Thanks for your help

Yes! Look under the base. There should be some sort of support for the base. If there isn't then I would puddle cement or mortar under the base, (especially around the drain) and let it cure before step in the base. The reason for this in that if the base isn't supported it will flex and give a bit any time weight is put on it and it time that will rupture the drain seal and it will leak. Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom

Also, and in addition to Tom's advice: the drain usually dips about 1" or 2" bellow the finished floor. Make sure you remove about 1" wide strip of concrete around the drain pipe that is sticking up...

Some shower pans have supporting, reinforcing ribs, and no additional support is needed. If not, then do as Tom said...
