    Replacing a shower washer
When I turn my shower handle to "on", only about half of the water converts to shower. The rest continues to come out of the faucet. I think that I need to replace a washer, but need some information on how to replace it.

I take it you have a three handled shower valve, (see image) with a center diverter knob. Remove the knob and cover plate. Now unscrew the bonnet packing nut and back the stem and washer assembly out counterclockwise. Replace the washers and check the seat for nicks or rough spots. With the valve still open turn on the water for a few seconds to flush out any crud that may be in there. Reassemble and test. Better now? Good luck and thank you for rating my reply. Tom
