    Inrceasing computer virtual memory
Hi, I have a 3d programme installed in my computer, Softimage XSI recently it never successfully opens when I try to open the software, it goes allthe way to the last stage but kind of frreezes, I am beginning to think I may need to increase my ohisycal memory and now I have nothing less than 2.5gig sticks, 2 of hynix make and 1 is elpida make, but the trouble remains, so now I figure I may have to oush up the virtual memory,

What does anyone think about the challenge I am facing and do you really think I need to up my virtual memory and how do you suggest I do that and to what percentage push up.

    Thanks

    1. Right click on MY COMPUTER and select Properties. How much memory does it say is actually installed?
    2. What is your operating system?
    3. What is the full make and model # of your computer? You might have to look on the back on the serial # tag to see the real model # listed there.

Running Windows XP on 2.5 gigs of memory, your computer should purr like a kitten.

If it doesn't, I'm guessing you have a crapload of stuff loading itself during your boot up cycle.

    Download/install this program:
    Download CCleaner 2.13.720 - FileHippo.com

Click on the "Download latest version" at the top of the right-hand sidebar. While it's installing, watch out for the page with all the "checkmarks"... uncheck the one at the bottom that wants to install Yahoo Toolbar. Unnecessary.

Run the program, and click on Run Cleaner (bottom right corner) and let it do its thing.

When that's done, click on Tools on the left, then find Startup a little to the right of that and click on it.

This shows you all the programs that are loading themselves every time you start your computer. You're going to find SO much in here that's unnecessary... Adobe Acrobat reader, QuickTime, RealPlayer, iTunes Helper, and more and more. All of these programs work FINE without these little "helper" pieces running on your computer ALL THE TIME.

Click on one you spot that's not needed 24/7 and then click on Disable. Don't disable anything that has to do with your firewall or antivirus. If you're unsure, ask us here.

Once you've pared this startup list down to just what is necessary, your computer will be freaky fast in comparison. You'll see.

Thanks for this and I am about to try it out, I will also make a list of some programmes in my add/remove programme application but which I am not sure if they are still needed or not, sometimes I feel some of those other programmes are already updated and why shd they still be laying on my computer but since I am not sure I leave them standing but if you can tellme which is necessary or not then I can immediately uninstall/remove them.

I am about to download the freeware leaner you suggested but I like to mention that I have registry doctor installed already and also adaware what about those, just yesterday I did a similar clean up using the window xp in built cleaning mechanism, I also defragmented my system which took most part of the day to complete.

On my virtual memory side of things, I just bumped it up to 9595 from the recommended 3838, having done all these have done right or something is correct here.

    Thanks JB
