Black screen, bright, narrow horizontal line
Recently, several times, my computer has gone to a black screen with a bright horizontal line, and in the background I can see what should be showing as a faint "rolling" image. I have shut it down with the button and restarted it, sometimes several times before it acts normally.

It is an old Dell, Windows 98 SE system.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

If CRT type monitor, bad/failing monitor - vertical deflection components. Try another monitor.
