Depends on the requirements in your area.
My husband was charged with a felony, but he never went to jail. Technically he was supposed to go to jail, get fingerprinted, etc. but they never did that. He received a call from the police department informing him he had a warrant, and then a few days later he received a notice in the mail with a court date. He went to the hearing where the charges were dropped and the case was dismissed. Yet, somehow my husband's case still managed to make the front page of the newspaper.
Nonetheless, he applied at two departments and they rejected him. The third department hired him without delay knowing about the felony charge. So your best bet would be to know, or find out, which departments have less strict guidelines. Having a friend at the department wouldn't hurt.
The sad part is, it could all boil down to what the charges were. Even though the charges were dropped and the case was dismissed, and it shouldn't matter, I believe it sometimes does.
Good luck.
