    Nails can be put into wood wall panels. The question is--will the nails support the weight of the item(s) you are hanging? Nails hold with friction they create with the material they are driven into. If you have a one eighth inch panel and drywall, the nail will have very minimal grip. You could try the hooks on the Mays infomercials or a good plastic anchor insert and screw.
