    Holly bushes are too big
I have 4 holly bushes(trees) about 8+ feet tall. They are bloking windows how far can I cut them back or do I need to remove them and start over with something like hydragea's and keep them trimed back ?

    Thanks... Nevada Ron

Like most plants you need to be careful about over cutting. You can take 1/3 of the top and sides this fall and then the same amount next fall. It takes time to get this plant back to what you want. If you took 1/2 off now you could loss it. On the other hand mine where eaten bare by deer almost to the ground and came back nicely. I could send you some of my deer if you'd like.

Holly are very hardy I've seen them come back after being cut to the ground. They can also be shaped. If you cut a major branch it will produce many small branches. Fun tree!
