I'm in Ontario, Canada, I rented a car with insurance... the car gets damaged... I call the police and they instruct me to call the rental company. When I get to the dealership they say that my insurance is null and void because I didn't contact them within 1 hour. I dispute the claim... I few days later I noticed that they had charged a some of money from my card far in excess of the rental cost. Can they do that? It was agreed that that card was just to secure the rental and now to be billed. Please advise...

No. Call the credit card company and make a complaint. They'll credit your account with the money until they investigate.

Well maybe, in fact I would bet that you did OK them to do this in a lot of the fine print of the rental contract that you did not read.

This is a common practice to bill for damages and is normally allowed by the contract you sign.

So go back to the contract and read it , and/or have your attorney read it.

But most likely you will end up in court over it.
