    Tap root for maple tree
In my front yard I have a 30-35 foot norwegian (?) maple
Tree it is planted close to my incoming water pipe
As well our outgoing sewer pipe. The sewer pipe looks as though it is 3-4 feet below ground and the water pipe is
2 feet deeper . The tree trunk is 1-2 feet from the outside
Water shut off . Should the tree be taken down to stop
Further downward growth and possible damage to both
    Systems?

Most tree roots spread out, but do not go much deeper than about 2 feet. If your pipes are modern copper or PVC, I don't think there should be much of a problem. Tree roots will go down and clog old clay tile sewers. Even then, you could instal a clean out and have the roots cut out every few years.

Another question is how close to the house is the tree? If it is too close, you may want to keep the limbs cut back to keep them from rubbing the house. I would try to save the tree if you can.
