    The amount to spend
What can £100,000 get you for a Wedding?

    Considering:

    Dress
    Suit
    Reception
    Guest gifts
    Car hire (pref Ferrari)
    Page Boy, bridesmaids etc
Air travel for relatives, possibly Hotel stay around 6 people
Their taxi pick ups to and from the Airport
Hoilday to Bora Bora Islands or somewhere very hot

What else is needed for a big wedding?

    How much?

That much money can get you deeply in debt even before the wedding vows are finished. That is unless you are rich. I personally have a very hard time understanding why a couple would spend that much money for a wedding that according to world statistics will be over before the debt is paid off. I think you would be far wiser to take 5 to 10% of that money for the wedding and the rest as down payment on a nice house.

If that's CASH, $100,000 can buy you a $150,000 wedding. If that's a loan you're taking out, it will buy you a $70,000 wedding.

Everything in life is negotiable, especially if you're holding the cash in your hand. It makes people crazy more amenable. (I just took delivery last year on 3 new appliances from SEARS that I negotiated 30% off the whole bundle's sale price waving $100 bills at the manager.) If you have cash and a strong spine, you can negotiate that cash into buying a lot.

On the other hand, you titled this thread "The amount to spend".

If that's $100,000 cash, I'd take $20,000 TOTAL to buy us a nice $25,000 negotiated wedding, then $5,000 on the honeymoon of a lifetime. The rest is a down payment on a house... a down payment that means your mortgage will be WONDERFULLY affordable.

You want to have a successful marriage... think like people who already know that money is the #1 reason couples break up. Beat the money demon off with a broom by never wasting money you can invest in your lives.

A down payment is an investment... a wedding is a party. Throw a party... but keep in mind the marriage follows immediately after. Start ahead.
