He doesn't call when he say he will and he usually only rings me about once a month. I know this doesn't look good and I should give up on him but I really like this guy and the interest was there to begin with. Is there anything at all I could do to try and make him want me again or is this a lost course and should I move on.

Move on! If you keep ringing him, he's going to think you're some kind of stalker. Stop making a fool of yourself, if he wants you, he'll come get you.

If he doesn't, then it wasn't meant to be.

Don't call him, don't tell him when to call and see if you distancing yourself improves his outlook.

If after a couple of weeks (or one week) he still couldn't care about you distancing yourself than you definitely know its time to go.

As I told you before, his actions speak louder than his words, and his actions say HE DOESN'T CARE!!!
