I have an electric water heater (STATE SELECT) approx 10+/- yrs old. It recently started leaking slowly from the bottom. The leak is not continuous. The unit has not been moved, banged... since it was installed. Any suggestions on stopping the leak other than replacing the unit?

Check hardware store for leak stoppers. They are soft rubber washers on various size self-threading sheet metal screws that can be screwed into the leaking hole. Warning - a leak may be small now, but it is an indication of a deteriorating tank, it is better for peace of mind to replace whole tank noew and avoid a flood later.

I agree with the second part of LESMCF's answer. Swtay safe and replace the hot water tank now ,it will be a lot cheaper now then to do it after you have a flood and it will happen , SO THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO REPLACE THE HOT WATER TANK :: GOOD LUCK AND GODBLESS:: F.B.E.
