    Why would my heat pump freez in the heating mode ?

    It is not defrosting if the outside unit freezes up.

    There can be mechanical controls
    Circuit boards
    Defective reversing valves or reversing valve coils
    Best to call for ON SITE service or you will spend big $$$ for parts you may not need.
