    Ceiling fan remote
:)I have read some of the posts on this forum and have installed several fans with remotes that could not be controlled by a manual speed control primarily becauses of the reverse switching problem. I have two questions. Can I still switch the lights separate by just bypassing the remote with the switch leg for the light kit? And, can I install the remote receiver for the fan, start the fan on high moving forward, disconnect power, take the batteries out of the remote and install a mannual speed control?

Also does anyone no why they are trying to push this remote only business? I have a friend that can't find a nice fan and light combo that doesn't have a remote, or one with a remote that has a manual reverse switch.

No. The manual control will mess with the receiver, which will still be wired into the circuit.

    Because they suck.

Remotes are a gimmick that sounds good when you're shopping. Who doesn't like convenience.
