We are having a persistent leak around the base of our toilet. First we replaced the wax ring. Still leaked. Then we replaced it again with a jumbo wax ring. Still leaked. I noticed the porcelain around one of the bolt at the base was cracked so we replaced the whole toilet w/ a brand new set up. STILL LEAKS! I'm going crazy here! We did a pretty good job setting the toilet on the ring and felt a good "squish" on the wax when we placed it. I sat on the toilet and rocked slightly back and forth to make sure it got a good even setting. The flange seems to be level with the floor for the most part but I'll be honest that I didn't give it a super good inspection last time we had the toilet off. The house was built in the 20's and has original drain pipes I believe.

Any ideas for me?

Ok, I will assume you set the toilet the way it should be done...

Look at this other possible options:

1. Cracked china bowl. It may be small hair-line crack that is hard to see. Go over the bowl with you finger nails. Finger nails will detect even the smallest crack.

2. Leaking tank. You may have a leak from seal or bolts where tank meets bowl. It is a small but consistent leak. Water will travel down the bowl and to the base. Feel around around the bowl with dry hands. See if you can detect water.

3. Leaking water supply line any place between angle stop and fill valve. Again, water will slowly drip on the floor and will travel around the base

4. Leaking angle stop. Angle stop may be leaking from packing nut, threads and / or ferrell fitting. Fell the valve with dry hand. See if you can detect any wetness.

5. Boys / Men in your household are missing the target.

6. If you toilet is close to shower / tub, you may have leak from shower door. Water will travel down the tub and to your toilet where it will puddle.

See if any of these will work for you...

Are you positive that the water is coming from under the commode? There may be a leak in the wall and the water is coming out there and running under the commode and this confuses you. I say this because you make it sound like that the leak never did change in the amount of the leak, surely if you did all of that it should have canged the leak in some way.

I suggest that you completely dry the floor and then run some water in the Lavatory sink, that is if it is on the same wall as the commode or if your kitchen sink is on the other side of the wall. If you then get water on the floor I think it would be the arm coming from the Lavatory or sink to the vent pipe that is leaking.

Here's one that was missed. The wax seal is designed to prevent water from leaking out when a flush passes it. However, they were never meant to contain water that backed up from the other direction. If there were a partial clog that the water backed up past the seal and then drained away that would give you water around the base without overflowing the bowl. Now you got lottsa stuff to check out. Good luck, Tom
