    Home hot water heating systems
I don't know anything about these systems and need to know if I need to call someone. We are renovating our basement and while removing the old floor, one of the pipes to the register is rusted out. I have capped it off at both ends. Will this affect the rest of the house? Some of the pipes are lead and I know I will be changing these to the proper pipes.
Do I need to bleed the system so the rest of the house gets heated?

Thanks for ant help with this.

WOW I would like to have a picture of that for my classes I give. In all the years in the trade I have never seen a lead pipe on a boiler before. Now black iron was the standard for years but the only lead lines in this part of the country were gas lines and water lines most of which are gone now.

The answer to your question depends upon weather or not you have a loop system or individual branches. You may try starting the boiler circulator pump and see if the water circulates through the system and see if you can hear and unusual noise from the lines. You may have to bleed the system also. Post back with what you find.
