My boyfriend changed the locks with all my personal belongings still there
I live in Overland Park, Kansas and my boyfriend decided to change the locks while I was at work yesterday. Everything I own is in that house. I am not on the lease but my Driver's License has that address number and I get mail there. What are my rights? Is he allowed to do this? I don't know any laws on this so I need help.

He is not allowed to do this. It is considered an illegal eviction. Call the police and they will force your boyfriend to let you back in. Since you are a resident your boyfriend has to give you a 30 day written notice that your tenancy is terminated and then file a lawsuit for eviction if you don't leave by the end of the notice period.

Lisa is, of course, 100% correct. You may even be able to sue your boyfriend for the illegal eviction.

But there is a caveat here. Do you really want to remain in the same apartment with someone that would do this? What I would do is call the police and ask them to accompany you to get your things from the apartment. Then file suit against your ex-bf for the cost of storage and a hotel room until you can find another space.
