The chances that you will change as you continue to mature are pretty high. You may not be the same person when you are 27 (and he's 36) as you are now, which means a high chance of divorce. It's impossible for strangers to predict though. Look into your heart and think about how alike you are. Has he been to college? Are you going? How are you two alike and how different?

Nine years difference is not a great amount. However at 17 you are too young to really know what you want. I know, the sex is good, But Sex alone will not carry you through life. At some point you have to be friends and have common interests. What are his plans and goals in life? Does he have a college degree? Does he have a job? Does he have a job lined up in Oregon? Remember that Oregon unemployment rate is generally one of the highest in the nation and that the average wage is on the very low side. That means that housing will be nearly impossible to afford, food will take a lot of your budget too. I suspect that this is an excuse to get away from your parents? Please rethink this and consider that without an education you will never have a chance at "the good life" and be stuck at the poverty level of society for the rest of your life.

In Calfornia and Oregon you can't get married at the age of 17 without you're a parent permission. You will have to wait until your 18 years old.

Also, being that your 17 and he is 9 years your senior, he can get in trouble for having sexual relations with you if your are having sex. Calfornia has very strict laws about this.

What do you parents think about you two being together?

When I was 18, I began dating a man who was 26. I loved him and he was kind to me, but I was middle class and getting a good education, while he was more working class and had no education and had a close relative with severe drug problems. We had 4 good years, but I began to want someone who was more interesting to talk to.

I was working very hard on my studies and he was working very hard to keep his relative in a drug treatment program. We just had less and less in common despite our affection for each other. We never argued. We were a pretty good match when I was 18, but not by the time I was 21.
