Need to match wires to t-stat terminals
When my house was built 3 years ago, a Bryant multistage heat pump was installed. Initially a Honeywell T8411R Electronic Heat pump thermostat was installed as well as a built in humidifier. There are wires going to the thermostat with the brown and black wires being hooked to the humidifier. The thermostat died this summer and quite foolishly was replaced with the wrong Hunter type, so low and behold, it got hold and no heat came on. So now I have a Honeywell RTH3100C non programmable heat pump thermostat to install.
The terminals for the new thermostat are E, Aux, Y, G, O, L, R, B and C. The 6 wires coming out of the wall not currently hooked to anything are green, red, blue, white, yellow and orange. Now of course, if they had been properly labeled, I wouldn't be here, now would I. So, now that it is to be in the 20's tonight and we have been cold for the last couple of days, could someone please, oh please advise me what to hook to what? The Honeywell site t-stat wizard doesn't support the new t-stat. Thank you, thank you and my cold daughter also thanks you.

Complete wiring directions contained in the link below.

    http://customer.honeywell.com/techli...0s/69-1037.pdf

Convert letters to colors like we all have to. R=RED W=WHITE etc.

Hopefully whoever wired it will maintained the correct wire color standard.

Thank you, but I already have the manual. My problem is that on the illustration, it appears that 8 wires are connected, but I only have 6 to connect... so I can't quite determine which ones to connect.

You are going to have to figure out EXACTLY where the wires go,where they are attached to on the unit, and the color. With that info I can tell you how to wire the thermostat. Usually the old thermostat is on the wall and when removed the location and color of the wires can be noted to make hooking up the new thermostat a snap.

I am somewhat afraid to just guess using the existing wire colors coming out of the way with no other information.

Since you are freezing your buns off I am going to use the owners manual to guess where the wires go. It is actually pretty simple so I hope it works with no other problems.

    Wire to your color code

    G to Green wire
    R to Red wire
    W to White wire
    Y to yellow wire
    O to orange
B to (problem wire) LOL There are different designations available for the Blue wire usage.

Wire all the wires but the blue (temp tape it off) and see what how it works. Make sure all your circuit breakers for the electric furnace are turned on after you have the thermostat wired and not before. Leave power off while wiring or any time you are changing wires.

Post back and let me know how it is working. I will do more research on the blue wire and where to land it on the thermostat. At this time we do not even know if the blue wire is attached to the inside unit. It is designated as a change over for heat but the unit you have probably uses the Orange wire for that purpose. So for now leave the Blue unattached.

Well, w isn't an option so I hooked the white wire up to aux.. . And everything seems to come on as far as the thermostat and I have waited the 5 minutes it said it may take to start up but no heat, no fan, no compressor going, but plenty of cold buns. I really think it lies when it says it is heat pump compatible... esp. w/aux heat.

    From your new stat manual

If no wire matches the E terminal on the new thermostat, use a small piece of wire to connect terminals E and aux . Try a jumper to E from aux and leave the white on aux and see what happens
