    Hi, SHADOW78CNC!

Are you sure about the spelling of the name of the company? I'm not finding anything on the Internet with that name. I also tried spelling the name a little differently too, when searching a couple of times.

I don't know if you live in Dayton, OH. But, I would think that public libraries in Dayton would most likely have books that have listings of businesses in Dayton for about any time. At least that would be a way to start.

If you might not live in Dayton, then you could go to the public library where you are and a librarian there would be able to contact people at a library in Dayton for you. You might even be able to contact library personnel at a library in Dayton via there website.

    Thanks!

    Hi Shadow,

The name of the company that made the desk is the M. Ohmer's Sons Company. They were located in Dayton, Ohio. There is a limited amount of information about the company on the internet. The company made desks and file cabinets in the late 1880s and (I believe) into the 1900s. Do a search on the name and you will find some examples of their furniture as well as information about large projects they supplied the furniture for.

I also have a desk made by the company that was made prior to 1913. (That was the year of the Dayton flood. The desk and a cabinet were in the house when it flooded.) The desk is missing the lock. The lock used by the company is an unusual type in that it did not lock into the surface of the desk, but rather locked against the left and right sides of the desk. I have all of the mechanical parts of the lock except the center mechanism.

If your desk has the lock intact, I would be most interested in close-up photos of both the face and especially the underside in order to have a locksmith craft a replacement lock.

    [Edit.]

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hi, BigJoe777!

I'm glad that you were able to find out some information about the desk!

We do keep all information on the threads rather than soliciting for people to make contact outside of the site here in order to maintain the integrity of the site. So, I did need to remove your contact information.

Images and all sorts of other information can be posted here.

    Thanks for your understanding!

I too have a piece of furniture by Ohmer's and sons. It is a 48 unit cabinet. The individual drawers roll upward, each section is 11" x 17.75" and has a brass latch on the face to keep it in place when open. Very interesting. Wish I knew more.
