I lived in an apartment and sign a one year lease. When signing the lease she (leasing manager) asked if I wanted to be on the quite side and I said yes, knowing that in an apartment complex there really is not a quiet side. But here is my delima.
My lease was up (pro rated) at the end of September I moved out the end of August. I gave them notice that I would be moving out in September but due to several ongoing instances I moved out before.
1. Leasing manager gave out my name to another tenant when I complained about parking issue (other tenant confirmed that), he has sinced moved out as well.
2. Gates at the entrance being broke 90-95% of the time
3. Being approached at the mailbox (while in my car) by a guy that did not live there and then later that day found out they had arrested him (on drugs, etc)
4. Guy got in my car approx 3:00am (I was leaving out of town for trip and was loading my car), He had also been banging on my along with several other aprtment doors early that morning (he was with a group of people that lived there and apparently they wanted him to leave and just kicked him out of their apartment)
5. Had to call security officer 3 times and could not get a call back because phone line was down on the officers part, so had to call HPD for a party that was going on (this happened on two different occasions), the tenants where so load that you could hear them yelling and baniging on the doors.
6. Two apartments where broken into
7. My car was keyed and another truck was broken into
8. Leasing managers having dogs on patio after telling tenants that we could not have them... (it is total double standard there)
9. And the list goes on.
All of these issues where brought to the attention of the manager of the complex as well as the head office and NOTHING was done about it. All they could say was talk to the manager on duty and I told them on numerous occasions and nothing ever changed.
How should I handle this one, they have turned it over to a collection agency and trying to collect a much larger amount over one month's rent.
Any advise is much appreciated.
