Identifying an oil painter with signature LMR
About 1975 I purchased a beautiful painting in a gallery/shop in NYC. It was signed with the initials LMR. I do not know who the artist is. I would like to identify the name of the artist, his works and the value of the painting. It is a painting of a blonde haired maiden sitting in a garden with light green plants and touches of yellow.
    Thank you.

A description doesn't do much for identifying a painting or artist. Can you include a couple of pictures.

Also, do you remember the name of the gallery you bought it from? If it's an important one, and if it's still around, you could contact them with your questions. Many keep good records. Even if you can't remember the name, but you remember the street or the area, it could help.

    Yes, send a picture.

Also, do you have any idea regarding when the painting was made? Or the style in which it is painted? Have you checked behind the frame/canvas for other noteworthy details?

    thank you for your replies.
The gallery was on 57th St. in Manhattan, purchased around 1975. The gallery no longer exists. I remember that there was a similar painting in a mauve color - also a young lady sitting on a white wicker chair in a garden with sunlight filtering through the plants. The painting has a lightness to most of the strokes with very heavy strokes for the daisies.

I will supply a photo within a day or two.

I would simply like to identify the initials LMR if possible and then locate the artist because the painting needs to be cleaned up. I love the painting; it is beautiful. Wouldn't mind knowing if it has any value.

    thank you again.

What do you mean when you say that the painting needs to be cleaned up?

By cleaning up, I mean that it is showing signs of dirt and there is a chip of paint fallen off.

You don't need to contact the painter to "fix" the painting. All you need is someone who does painting restoration.

By the way, I have no idea who painted it or what it's worth.
