If you connerct two water heaters in series it will double the amount of hot water you have in storage but the first heater will do all of the heating unless you completely run the first heater out of hot water, then the second heater will kick in.

What we do we set thermostat on first heater to 100F and to 125F on the other one. The first heater preheats, the second brings it up to desired temperature. That way the first heater works less than it should while the other one works only very lightly...

Everybody here is assuming that the hook up will be series. But what if it's a parallel hook up? That would double the volume ar the same temperature settings. Food for thought! Tom

Two water heaters connected in parallel will heat the water approximatly the same temp but the water flowing through each heater can vary depending on the amount of restriction in the piping, although the difference probably would not be noticeable in a home use.
