    Molar mass of a substance
15 moles of an unknown substance has a mass of 2308.94g. What is molar mass of the substance?

    I was thinking its 15mol x 2308.94f = 34634.1 g/mol

Does anyone know if this would be correct? I couldn't find the correct formula to find out the molar mass, but I seemed to remember doing it this way. Any thoughts?

You're looking for the molar mass (g/mol), so you would divide the total grams (2308.94 g) by the total moles (15 mol), to get the g/mol.

The way you were thinking of was if it were to ask for the grams and gave you the molar mass. Then you would multiply the moles by the molar mass (moles x grams/mole) to get the grams.

Looking at the units and seeing how they cancel is a good way to check if you did it right. If you look at the way you were thinking, it would be: moles x grams = grams/mole... which we can see right off is wrong.

    Hope this helps :)
