    Computer turning itself off

I'm having problems with my CPU. My computer keeps turning itself off. It is a HP Pavilion 526X. The push on button is on front and there is a little yellow light underneath. The yellow light seems to dim and after several days of use, the computer will shut itself off. Sometimes I can push the button and the computer will come back on and other times it won't come on at all. After I unplug the computer for a few days, the computer will come back on. This goes back and forth. Works for a few days, down for a few days.

I took it to a repair guy back in August and he said I had a virus. So he added some additional virus protection and memory and sent me home. The computer had been sitting off for awhile so he didn't see the problem regarding the computer not starting up as it started up for him. He apparently didn't understand me and did what I mentioned above.

Does anyone know what this problem could be..?

    Thank you.

To me it sounds like either a heat problem or a power supply problem. You might try running it without the side cover to see if it works longer. If it is a heat problem, that might help. Make sure the fans are all running and clean of dust. Make sure it has plenty of room around it (not in a cabinet, for example)

If it is power supply, then it will still shut off. Replacing the power is a simple project if you can find a good computer guy (obviously not the guy you previously went to).

    Good luck,

Yes I'm pretty sure it's a heat problem. Check the grease on your processor. Or check your fans and your power supply
