I was just wondering when you first start taking birth control, how long do u have to wait until you can start having sex without a condom? Can you start doing it right away or should you wait a while longer?

Wait, If I remember Ithink I had to use other protection for the first 2-3 months just o make sure you have enough of that stuff in your system.

Birth control pills do not protect you from STDs. Nor is any form of birth control 100% effective. So I wouldn't give up the condoms.

I know that, my boyfriend and I have been together for a very long time and Ive known him for about 7 years, Him and I are devoted to each other and haven't been with anybody else. We are both frustrated with condoms in which 2 have broken on us for no reason. Birth control is a better solution for us.

Um... birth control is shown to be effective after 2 weeks of usage but it is recommended to wait a full cycle before having sex.

At my hospital, when we discharge our mothers, we recommend that the pill is effective after taking it for one entire month/cycle.

As has been mentioned, the pill is not 100% effective, I know, my two son's were born on the pill.

How effective is the pill if used correctly?

Supposedly the pill is 97 - 99% effective if used properly, but you can ask my two oldest sons how effective it is. LOL They are both pill babies and my DIL is expecting her first child in December and she used the pill properly too.

Remember though, that certain antibiotics can greatly lessen the effect of birth control pills.

Oh my gosh lol that's kind of scary haha I don't know what I'm more afraid of, the pill not working or the condoms breaking for a 3rd time and having to wait at the clinic for the plan B pill. The joys of being a girl lol

Seriously though, there are ways to be intimate with your partner and give each other pleasure without risking pregnancy.

We have many ways of connecting with each other and were always being intimate. On those special occasions though we want to have sex and feel like we are apart of each other... abstention isn't something I want to do. I don't want to cut it out completely lol

I have been on 4 different types of birth control pills (you have to find which works best for you with the side effects and such) and most doctors and pill inserts say use condoms for at least 1-2 weeks during the first month of the pill (I usually do 2 just to be safe). You don't have to abstain from sex, especially if you guys have been together for years then that idea is a little out there I think.

For the pill to be 97-99% effective you have to take it at the same time of day every day and don't miss a pill otherwise the effectiveness goes down (with typical use) to about 91 or 92% and can be in the 80's if you aren't good about it. The numbers get a little scary so be safe, be a perfect user, when in doubt use condoms.

And like I said, you have to find which pill works best for you so if you don't like the first kind you try you can try another kind. Good luck!

And also, if you go to planned parenthood or somewhere like that ask for a couple of packs of plan b to keep on hand just in case you are worried. But remember this is just a larger dose of birth control so unless you miss a pill you don't need it, or if a condom breaks. If you are using the pill and the condom breaks *when you are already using both methods* you don't need to take the plan b. It also helps to know that you ovulate about 14 days after the start of your period (it differs a bit for everyone). Know your body and your BC well and you should be just fine. :)
