I have the same problem except the bath is on the second floor. The sink runs for a few minutes then backs up... takes about an hour to drain a couple cups of water. The toilet and tub are just fine, everything on the main floor is fine. I have tried to snake the drain, but came up with nothing execept a black sludge. I tried an enzymatic cleaner and it helped a little but not much.

Any ideas would be greatley appreciated.

Did you remove the trap and snake out the lateral,(horizontal) drain line in the wall? That's where you'll find most of your blockages. Good luck, Tom

I did, but didn't get very far. I couldn't get past the next curve... nothing on the end of the snake, except that black sludge.

I have tried an enzymatic cleaner... it has opened up a bit... or at least farther down the line... but still it backs up. I read that the enzymatic stuff may take up to a month to open the drian up...

Any other suggestions?:)

The fasrest, surest way to clear a drain line of clogs is to snake and flush.
You said," didn't get very far. I couldn't get past the next curve."
Let me tell you what's in the wall and how to snake it out.

First remove the "J" bend part of the trap. Then sendthe snake up the trap tail into the wall. You will run into a elbo about 8" in. Crank and push your way around it. From then you only have to put out about 6 more feet of snake and you're done except for flushing it out. Good luck, Tom
