The well comes on and then the switch won't let the pressure get to 40 without the points sticking and clicking causing it not to cut off. This is an electric water well with a 20/40 pressure switch. What could be causing this?

Sounds (obviously) like a bad switch. You can try filing the points with an emory board. Again, obviously, do this with the power off. But I wouldn't spend much time fooling with it when you can buy a new switch for twenty bucks and install it in an hour or less. You might want to also look at the small pipe leading to the switch to make sure it is not clogged with crud... happens rather often.
We just replaced the sitch bought a brand new one still having this problem
What type of pump do you have? Try this. Let the pump pump up some pressure and shut the pump off at the breaker box. Does it hold pressure at the gage? Let me know. Tom
Hi Tom no it is not holding the pressure. As soon as you cut it off ,it losing the pressure immediately.it returns to zero and it never makes it to 40 and it never disengages
Good catch, SB.
