Hi Mark, hope you can help me here, I am having problems with a back to back toilets in a bathroom & ensuite, when one toilet is flush the other toilets waste does not enter the other toilet, but dis-coloured water does if you understand what I mean, could it be that the stench pipe needs a reflector can you guide me?

Question - When should the circulator motor turn on? When I put the t-stats all the way up, the zone valves open. However, it appears the circulator does not start. Also, not always, but when I turn the t-stats all the way up the boiler will fire. When should the circulator start, with the zone-valve opening or at a certain boiler temperature?
Does hot water move without the circulator, from heat and pressure? The boiler gauge pressure is at 12 pounds and the boiler temp is 180 degrees.

I am trying to determine if the Aquastat is faulty. Can I short the circulator to test it?
Pump should turn on as soon as there ia a call for heat from your thermostat.
I would start by testing for voltage at the pump when system is calling for heat. You should have about 120v. If you do and your pump still isn't running then your pump is bad, need to replace. There are many things that could be the problem, however you say that your pressure is 12psi, this is exactly what it should be. You may have airlock problems. How do you know your pump isn't working?

Thanks. To answer your question I don't know if the pump is working. The house is warmer than it is outside, so I know the heat works. It seems the circulator is working intermittently.
If I am following your suggestion I should be checking for 120V at the circulator, or at the aquastat? I will check both

Clearly your pipe is blocked up in some way...
Are these toilets on the 1st or 2nd floor? Are any other fixtures involved? When you fill the tub and drain it does the toilet bubble?
If so, then the main drain stack from these toilets is clogged and will need to be snaked to clear the blockage.
Answer my questions so we can tell you the best tools to use for this job... you may or may not need to lift the toilet to snake the drain. You may be able to snake from roof vent or you may not even need to snake at all... maybe you can use a CLOSET AUGER tool.

All your aquastat does is regulate temp of water in boiler. When the water drops below a certain temp( when there is a call for heat) the aquastat will fire the burners, when temp gets to setting on aquastat it turns the burners off(gas valve off). But, whenever there is a call for heat(from the thermostat) the recirc pump will run continuously until the call for heat has ended. Hope this helpsQuote:
