    What cause the tub to back up when flushing toilet?
    The toilet was gurgling earlier today, now when it doesn't flush and tub backs up?

    Could be roots in the pipelines. Or just clogged up pipes from things flushed down.

    Drain line is clogged. It could be that the main drain line to home is clogged or simply that that particular bathroom drain line is clogged.

    Determine if all fixtures are backing up (look at lowest fixture in home... if tub then you know the answer). If all fixtures blocked up then you will ned tol locate the main drain cleanout, remove the cap and confirm that water is backing up here.

    If main drain line, then you would need to RENT a large cable machine, and purchase some leather gloves and a pair of safety goggles and then snake the main drain line.

    If isolated to one bathroom group then you may be able to snake drain from the roof (if flat roof) or pull the toilet and snake the drain from there.
